Biographical Notes
Matthias Jung is a musician, media designer, and researcher working at the intersection of instrumental performance, composition, and digital and interactive media design. His artistic background is rooted in a strong instrumental education in percussion (vibraphone, drum set, percussion), which later expanded into music production, sound design, and technology-driven artistic practice.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Popular Music and Media from the University of Paderborn and ETI Detmold and a Master’s degree in Electronic Media Design from Stuttgart Media University, where his focus shifted toward digital audio technologies, interactive systems, and immersive media. He completed his PhD in Popular Music Performance at the University of Agder (Norway), researching performative co-creation, distributed creativity, and intelligent music performance systems, with parts of this work conducted as a visiting researcher at the School of Music at the Georgia Institute of Technology (US).
Alongside his academic work, Matthias Jung has been active in music education, program design, and cultural production. He has worked at Berlin’s State Academy of Music as a program designer and educational officer and headed the program team of Most Wanted: Music, Berlin’s leading music, technology, and business conference. Through dozens of educational programs and international conferences, he has built a broad international network across academia, the arts, and the creative industries. In his teaching, he mentors students in their artistic development while helping them connect creative practice with professional and business contexts.
